Palestinians run away from tear gas during clashes

Palestinians run away from tear gas during clashes with Israeli security men following a protest against the construction of a new section of the separation barrier which goes over their land in the northern West Bank village of Al-Zawieh, near Salfit, 10 June 2004. Villagers have been protesting since 07 June to try to prevent a new stretch of the barrier from being built on their land. Israel is building the separation barrier along the West Bank to prevent infiltrations by would-be suicide bombers, but Palestinians say the barrier, which often cuts deep into their territory, is a mere land-grab and pre-empts the borders of their promised state.
