A Palestinian member of the Al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades, an armed offshoot of president Mahmud Abbas' s Fatah faction, tells a trader to close his stall in the market of the West Bank town of Bethlehem after a general strike was called. Prime minister Ismail Haniya has vowed that his Hamas-led government would not let Palestinians slide into civil war following the deadliest bout of internecine fighting since he took office.
