GAZA CITY Gaza Strip - Israeli troops killed six Palestinians, one of them a young child, on Thursday during a raid on an eastern suburb of Gaza city, local doctors said.

The Israeli military said that troops on a mission to arrest wanted Palestinian militants came under heavy fire and six soldiers were wounded. The army had no information about Palestinian casualties.

Palestinian witnesses said the operation, involving Israeli infantry, armor and helicopters, started around 2:30 a.m. By about 8 a.m. the troops began withdrawing, they said.
